Course Description:
This course explores the intricate relationship between human biological processes and the mind-body connection. This relationship will be explored through the lens of a holistic health perspective. Beginning with an introduction to holistic health principles and the historical context of the mind-body connection, the course progresses through key biological underpinnings, including anatomy, physiology, neurobiology, and epigenetics, to understand how mental states influence physical health and vice versa. Students will explore cutting-edge research in psychoneuroimmunology, stress response mechanisms, and the impact of mindfulness and positive psychology on physiological processes. The course aims to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the biological basis of the mind-body connection, emphasizing the integration of mental, emotional, and physical health to promote overall well-being.
Eligibility:
To register, students must have completed an accredited Master of Acupuncture program or are currently enrolled聽in a Master of Acupuncture program.

David Dagg-Murry is the Doctor of Acupuncture Program Completion Track Administrator and faculty member.聽 He has a rich academic and clinical background, having studied and taught clinical counseling to graduate students for over two decades in addition to pursuing his education as an East Asian Medicine practitioner.聽 He has specialized in training and teaching for his entire career and also has a passion for working with patients struggling with substance abuse disorders, anxiety, depression, and chronic pain.聽 During his Master of Acupuncture Program Dr. Dagg-Murry participated in an internship at the 鈥淚ntegrative Medicine Hospital,鈥 Beijing, China and found this experience invaluable in developing clinical and academic skills.聽 Teaching and supervision have always been an important part of his professional development and he brings this deep experience to The Won as an administrator and faculty member.聽 He served as an adjunct faculty at The Ohio State University and Dayton University.聽 Four dogs, three cats, over 100,000 bees, and a caring husband help balance his work and playtime.

Course Description:
This course introduces students to the relationship between the science of plant chemistry and herbal medicine. Students study the basic principles of pharmacognosy and learn common chemical compounds located within plants of the Materia Medica. Topics explored include cannabinoids and pain management, essential oil chemistry and healing, and plant chemical compounds that act as medicinal agents.

To register, students must have completed an accredited Master of Acupuncture program or are currently enrolled聽in a Master of Acupuncture program.

Richard Mandelbaum (he, him) is a clinical herbalist and teacher of botany and herbal medicine, with a private practice in the Southern Catskills, NY. He is a founding partner, director, and teacher at the ArborVitae School of Traditional Herbalism in New York City. He received his BA from Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT and his Advanced Herbal Training Program certificate from the Sage Mountain program in VT.

Course Description:
This course introduces students to one of the five pillars of Traditional Asian Medicine (Acupuncture, Moxibustion, Tui Na, Qi Gong, and Herbal Medicine), offering a broad overview of herbal healing traditions and their contemporary applications. Students will explore the historical development of herbal medicine, focusing on Chinese Herbal Medicine while also examining parallel traditions such as Native American and South American herbalism. Emphasis will be placed on household herbs, essential oils, homeopathy, and dispensary practices to ensure a well-rounded understanding. Practical components include the principles of formulating herbal prescriptions, recognizing the synergy of herbal combinations, and understanding the sourcing and quality of herbs. The course integrates discussions on the ethical considerations of herbal practice, ecological sustainability, and the evolving regulatory landscape for herbalists in the U.S. Students will also gain foundational insights into the biochemical, energetic, and therapeutic properties of herbs across different cultural traditions.

Dr. Janet Leidy serves as the Academic Dean and also serves as Associate Professor in both the Doctor of Acupuncture and Acupuncture Studies Programs. She served as Chair of the Acupuncture Studies department from 2011 to 2016. She is a licensed acupuncturist (L.Ac.) and a licensed practitioner of Oriental Medicine聽 (L.OM.) who is board certified with the NCCAOM. She is also a licensed massage therapist and is board certified with the NCBTMB. She has an extensive background in both the teaching and practice of Bodywork and the Healing Sciences. In 2002, she founded the National Academy of Massage Therapy & Healing Sciences where she served as Campus Director and Director of Massage Therapy Education from 2002 to 2010. She sold the school to the Lansdale School of Business, but remained on as department chair until 2011. Dr. Leidy received a Doctor of Health Science from Nova Southeastern University, a Doctor of Acupuncture from the 黑料社 of Graduate Studies, and a Masters in Acupuncture from the 黑料社 of Graduate Studies where she graduated as valedictorian of her class. She also completed the Chinese Herbal Medicine Program at the 黑料社. Dr. Leidy completed a certification program in Traditional Korean Medicine at the Wonkwang University in Iksan, South Korea. She operates her private practice, Acupuncture For Life, in Hatfield, PA.
